The Kern River Valley is in unincorporated Kern County. The communities in and around the Valley, including Lake Isabella/Bodfish, Weldon, Kernville, Wofford Heights, Mountain Mesa, Onyx, and others are likewise unincorporated "census designated places."
Therefore most policy or practical concerns are handled by Kern County, which is governed by the Kern County Board of Supervisors and not the City of Bakersfield.
