Our Mission –
to help local businesses grow and prosper by creating an attractive and
unified look to the downtown Lake Isabella business area.
About Us:
We are the Community Development Committee of the Kern River Valley
Chamber of Commerce, currently chaired by Emily Diggles.
Current Projects:
-
We are working
with the CGD Foundation (also known as Downtown Isabella
Beautification Fund) placed with the Kern Community Foundation and
with the Community Services District to water and maintain the new
plantings along the Lake Isabella Boulevard Improvement Project
completed in 2006. Generally, two or three days a week you can see
us weeding, fertilizing, trimming, etc. along the Boulevard. This is
our major effort right now.
-
In addition,
we are maintaining the Downtown Design Guidelines, fund raising for
the Downtown Isabella Beautification Fund and planning future
projects. We hope to build the fund to a level that would generate
enough income from dividends & interest yearly to pay for
professional landscape maintenance forever. Our goal is $6,000
yearly
-
We are also
searching for volunteers to help weed and working to raise funds for
the necessary supplies to keep the plantings hearty and healthy.
Accomplishments:
-
Lake Isabella
Boulevard Beautification/Road Project now completed. We worked with Kern
County Supervisor Jon McQuiston to obtain required easements &
permissions from cooperating business and property owners. This project
added a left turn safety lane, bike lanes, curbs, sidewalks and
landscaping between Kernville Rd. (Hwy. 155) and Erskine Creek.
-
We cooperate with
the Bob Powers Wetlands Project supervising path clearing and endangered
plant species counts. This project is chaired by Tom Anderson.
-
In the past, we
ran a Beautification Award Program giving awards to new improvements of
special merit throughout the valley. This program is on hold pending new
volunteers.
Affiliations:
We are promoting valley unity by
working with and assisting with other chambers, businesses, residents,
organizations and agencies both in and outside the valley.
